Medellín is one of Latin America’s most vibrant and fast-evolving cultural centers — a city known for its creativity, resilience, beauty, and warmth. Our trainings take place in Laureles, one of the most loved neighborhoods in the city, recognized for its safety, walkability, tree-lined streets, cozy cafés, and incredible restaurant scene. It’s a place where you can study deeply during the day and enjoy community, nature, and culture in the evenings.

Medellín is also one of the most affordable and accessible cities for international students. Comfortable housing options are widely available, food is fresh and inexpensive, and transportation is simple — making it possible to invest in your training without the extreme costs often associated with retreat destinations.

There is also a deeper layer to why this location matters. The Andes Mountains — which cradle this region — carry strong earth-based ritual and sound traditions, including drum, voice, and ceremonial vibration practices. Part of Shannon’s own sound healing path and instrument studies were developed and deepened here in Colombia through time spent with Indigenous and land-based teachings. In that sense, this training is not only being hosted here — parts of the work were born here.

While this program teaches the Sound Wisdom method in a clear and structured way, students will also have opportunities to feel the living cultural relationship to rhythm, ceremony, and sacred sound that exists throughout the region.

Training Location — SOMA Medellín (Laureles)

All Sound Wisdom live certifications and mentorship intensives are hosted at SOMA Medellin, a bilingual yoga studio and holistic movement laboratory located in the Laureles district of Medellín.

SOMA is a donation-based, community-rooted practice space offering yoga, somatic practices, breathwork, meditation, movement, and embodied artistic exploration. The studio is guided by the principle of responsabilidad afectiva — affective responsibility — how we care for our bodies, each other, and the wider community informs everything that happens in the space.

This makes SOMA a deeply aligned home for Sound Wisdom trainings, which emphasize:

• consent-based facilitation
• nervous system safety
• emotional presence
• deep listening through sound
• authentic expression and voice

Rather than a commercial gym setting, SOMA is an intentional environment for physical, emotional, and philosophical expansion — rooted in curiosity, shared presence, and respectful practice.

Weekend Format

Each weekend includes ~21 intensive training hours:

Thursday evening — Foundations + orientation. (5:00-8:00pm)

Friday — Full training day (9:00-12:00noon + 3:00-6:00pm)

Saturday — Full training day (9:00-12:00noon + 3:00-6:00pm)

Sunday — Integration + practicum focus (9:00-12:00noon + 3:00-6:00pm)

(note: the three hour lunch break is necessary for Colombian restaurants!)

For those joining us for the full month long immersion, Monday–Wednesday between weekends are free for:

• rest

• practice

• integration

• city and surrounding area exploration
